PT RECREATION LEAD SUMMER CAMP INSTRUCTOR

Under general supervision, assists City staff in qualified instructing at various recreation programs or specialty area programs; and performs related duties as assigned. A high level of independent judgment is necessary.<em>The following duties have been provided </em>as <em>examples of the essential types of work performed by positions within this job classification</em><em>. </em><em>Management reserves the right to add, modify, change or rescind work assignments </em>as <em>needed. Duties listed are not necessarily performed by each individual in the classification</em><em>.</em><ul><li>Instructors can plan, conduct, evaluate and instruct at a variety of community recreation programs or classes and/or specialty area programming such as youth athletics, summer program, special programs or events including Leisure Square activities, or age appropriate activities including gymnastics and performing arts.<li>Assists  in planning organized activities for age appropriate clientele and may lead and oversee planned activities.<li>May develop lesson plans and curriculum for designated classes within the guidelines of departmental policies and/or certifying agency regulations.<li>Where necessary inspects equipment and facilities used on a regular basis to ensure safety<em> </em>and cleanliness and reports discrepancies to the department.<li>May arrange for supplies, equipment and proper facilities in a timely manner.<li>May supervise and assign duties to assistants and/or volunteers.<li>Observes standard operating procedures and safety practices.</ul><ul><li>Knowledge of City and departmental policies and procedures.<li>Knowledge of effective customer service principles and techniques.<li>Knowledge of sports rules and regulations.<li>Ability to plan and participate in recreation programs and activities for target residents, and to work effectively with children of all ages.<li>Ability to safely operate assigned equipment and demonstrate safe and correct techniques with proper equipment in an appropriate environment.<li>Ability to follow written and oral instructions.<li>Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with supervisors, co-workers, children and the general public.<li>Ability to communicate effectively.</ul><strong>OTHER JOB CHARACTERISTICS:</strong><ul><li>Works irregular hours as scheduled including nights, weekends and holidays.<li>May have exposure to the elements and potential exposure to infectious disease or personal harm when working outdoors.</ul><strong>TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT:</strong><ul><li>Sports apparatus or equipment, gymnastics equipment, etc.</ul><br> <strong>EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:</strong><br><br>High School graduate or equivalent; College graduate preferred or an equivalent combination of training and experience.<br> <br><strong>LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS:</strong><br><br>Licenses and Certifications  may be necessary to be instructors in safety related recreation programs.
