Primary Care Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant
Duke Health is seeking a dedicated Advanced Practice Provider (NP or PA) to join their Primary Care team at Duke Health Lake Norman. This role involves providing comprehensive acute, chronic, preventive, and prenatal care to patients of all ages in a primary care setting. The successful candidate will contribute to Duke Health's mission of compassionate care, serving new and established patients in Mooresville, NC.

- Located at Duke Health Family Medicine Mooresville, 417 E Statesville Avenue, Mooresville, NC 28115
- Work with a supervising physician, other providers and colleagues in the practice
Responsibilities
- Conduct detailed medical history assessment and physical exams
- Perform medication reconciliation
- Order diagnostic testing (e.g., lab work, EKG, cardiac echo, imaging procedures, etc.) when indicated
- Coordinate specialty referrals as indicated
- Provide consultation to patient and/or family regarding diagnostic and therapeutic procedures
- Provide patient and/or family education on various health topics (e.g., diabetes, nutrition, smoking cessation, pain management)
- Follow up on ordered laboratory studies, diagnostic procedures, etc.
- Prescribe treatment or medication when indicated
- Document all activity in patient's electronic medical record
- Participate in clinic research activities if needed
- Perform telehealth visits if needed
- Perform any other related duties required to service primary care scheduled or walk-in patients
Shift & Schedule
- FT, salaried position
- Ability and willingness to work Monday - Friday 8a-5pm, providing up to 36 hours of direct patient care per week
Requirements
- NP: Graduate of an accredited MSN or DNP Nurse Practitioner Program for adult care
- PA: Graduate of ARC accredited Master's Degree or Doctoral Degree Physician Assistant Program
- NP: NP-C certification
- PA: PA-C certification
- AHA approved BLS certification is required before hire
- ACLS and PALS must be completed after hire
- NP: Current unrestricted RN license issued by or recognized by NCBON with approval to practice as NP
- PA: Current unrestricted license issued by NCMB with approval to practice as a PA
- Current federal and state DEA with full prescriptive authority
- Experience working as a PA or NP in a primary care setting is preferred but not required
- Able to clearly articulate scope of practice, and practices within those guidelines as a Nurse Practitioner / Physician Assistant in the state of North Carolina and within the Duke University Health System
- Able to independently seek out resources and work collaboratively to solve complex problems
- Able to communicate clearly with patients, families, visitors, healthcare team, physicians, administrators, leadership, and others
- Able to use sensory and cognitive functions to process and prioritize information, perform health assessments, treatment, and follow-up
- Able to use fine motor skills
- Able to record activities, document assessments & interventions; prepare reports and presentations
- Able to use computer and learn new software programs
- Able to provide leadership in clinical area of expertise and in meeting organizational goals
- Able to navigate the Hospital and DUHS to provide clinical expertise to specific patient populations
- Able to withstand prolonged standing and walking with the ability to move or lift at least fifty pounds
- Able to remain focused and organized
- Able to work collaboratively with all levels of personnel
