Lead Veterinary Assistant — Where the Team Looks to You

There’s a person on every great veterinary team who just gets it: who knows before anyone asks that exam room two needs a turn-over, that the new assistant is struggling with a restraint technique, and that today’s schedule needs to flex before 9 AM. They lead without a title. They mentor without being asked. They make everyone around them better.

We’re looking for that person. And we’re ready to give them the title to match.

Who We Are

Lincolndale Veterinary Center is a small (but mighty) AAHA-accredited small-animal practice in Westchester County. We’re not corporate: we’re known for warm client relationships, high-quality medicine, and a team that genuinely cares for our patients, our clients, and each other. We work hard, we laugh together, and we (mostly) leave on time.

We need a Lead Veterinary Assistant to help us do it right.

Where You Come In

This isn’t just a senior assistant role with extra duties. As our Lead VA, you’ll be a real part of practice leadership: the person our assistant team looks to, and the person our veterinarians and Practice Manager rely on to keep clinical operations humming.

You’ll:

  • Oversee the day-to-day performance of our veterinary assistant team
  • Build and manage the weekly schedule for all non-DVM staff
  • Train, mentor, and support assistants — new and experienced alike
  • Adjust workflow in real time to handle urgent cases and keep the day on track
  • Assist veterinarians during exams, procedures, treatments, and surgeries
  • Ensure exam rooms and treatment areas are prepped, clean, and ready
  • Uphold and model our standards for animal handling, safety, and client communication
  • Educate clients on preventative care, medications, and post-visit instructions
  • Participate in leadership meetings and bring ideas for improving how we work
  • Collaborate with the Practice Manager and Owner to address team needs and keep things running smoothly

What We’re Looking For

  • At least 2 years of experience as a veterinary assistant in a clinical setting
  • Genuine leadership ability: you make the people around you better
  • Strong organizational and communication skills
  • Experience training and mentoring others (or a clear talent for it)
  • Comfort making real-time decisions and keeping things moving
  • Skilled in animal handling and basic medical procedures
  • Familiarity with veterinary PMS software (Pulse experience is a plus)
  • Bonus: experience creating staff schedules or knowledge of AAHA standards

What You’ll Get

  • A leadership role that’s real, not just a title
  • A team that respects you and a practice that listens to your ideas
  • AAHA-level medicine with digital X-ray, Oncura ultrasound, in-house labs, therapeutic laser, and Pulse EMR
  • Competitive pay
  • Health insurance stipend
  • Generous CE budget
  • Paid vacation, holidays, and sick leave (plus a day off for your birthday)
  • 401(k) plan with employer matching
  • Employee assistance program with 24-hour hotline
  • Employee pet discounts
  • A genuinely family-friendly environment where your well-being matters

If you’re ready to lead with heart, build a team you’re proud of, and do it in a practice that has your back, let’s talk.

Pay: $23.74 - $28.80 per hour

Benefits:

  • 401(k)
  • 401(k) matching
  • Continuing education credits
  • Employee assistance program
  • Employee discount
  • Paid time off
  • Professional development assistance
  • Retirement plan
  • Tuition reimbursement

Experience:

  • Veterinary assistant: 2 years (Preferred)

Work Location: In person
