Finance/Accounting Intern: Federal Billing & Project Funding

The intern will support the Federal Billing & Project Funding Branch by assisting with financial reconciliation, project funding processes, and team coordination activities. This role offers hands-on experience with federal billing systems, project closeouts, and internal communications, while contributing to the accuracy and efficiency of funding operations. Employees at this level perform assignments following specific instructions and are subject to frequent review by the immediate supervisor.

Essential Duties:

  • Reconcile project obligations with FHWA low bid requirements.
  • Assist with AC conversions and funding swaps.
  • Support coordination of branch meetings, including presentation prep and team-building planning.
  • Serve as backup Crossroad Coordinator and help maintain branch website content.
  • Aid in processing final vouchers and FHWA project closeouts.
  • Handle summary journal vouchers for fund distribution corrections.
  • Learn and apply Tableau for data visualization tasks.
  • Provide general support across the branch, including FTA billing, FAA reconciliations, Time and Labor processing, and federal canceled CSJ reviews.
  • Troubleshoot and maintain accuracy of PSFT PC funding records.
  • Research and respond to miscellaneous requests from divisions and districts.
  • Review and analyze “OLT” projects with apparent overruns in PSFT PC.
  • Performs other job responsibilities as assigned.


Minimum Qualifications:

Education: Must be a student in high school or other educational institution or accepted into a college, university or educational institution.

Other Conditions:

  • Must be at least 16 years of age, a student currently enrolled in high school or any institution of higher education to include
    a trade/vocational school.

     


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Majoring in Business Administration, Accounting, Finance, Computer Science/Technology, Economics or a related major is highly preferred

  • College-level upper classmen or graduate students highly preferred

     

Competencies:

  • Perform required technical skills using the following systems: Microsoft 365 (Teams, Planner, SharePoint, etc.), similar to Peoplesoft, Quickbooks, Tableau etc.
  • Communicate effectively
  • Follow verbal and written instructions
  • Follow applicable safety standards, practices and procedures
  • Protect sensitive and confidential information
  • Work successfully from a remote location

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:

  • Subject to environmental conditions; protection from weather but not temperature changes
  • Light work: Lift up to 20 lbs at a time and frequently lift or carry objects up to 10 lbs
  • Sitting - prolonged periods of time
  • Standing-prolonged periods of time
  • Repetitive Motion-substantial movements of the wrists, hands, and/or fingers
  • Close Visual Acuity-work includes data/figures; view a computer screen; extensive reading
