Cross Reference On-Site Specialist
About the position
The Cross Referencing Onsite Specialist is responsible for supporting Grainger's business growth by completing onsite customer data collection projects and identifying equivalent Grainger Redbook items. This role leverages product and industry knowledge, along with cross-referencing tools, to deliver accurate product matches. The position collaborates with internal stakeholders and gathers item-level product data at customer sites to ensure alignment with quality standards. It also manages travel, expenses, timelines, and customer communication to ensure a positive customer experience.
Responsibilities
- Apply working knowledge of MRO (Maintenance, Repair and Operations) industry and product information and to identify equivalent Grainger products for customer requests following established procedures.
- Travel up to 80% to customer locations to gather detailed product information about customer inventory needs.
- Arrange travel, file expense reports, submit project documents, and provide updates in accordance with project timelines under general guidance.
- Regularly communicate capacity and progress updates with team, leaders and other stakeholders
- Develop and maintain proficient knowledge of the Grainger assortment and cross-referencing tools and processes.
- Share insights from daily work to support operational improvements and collaborate on enhancements based on stakeholder feedback.
Requirements
- High School Diploma/GED or equivalent technical experience required
- 2+ years in MRO experience in sales or customer service or equivalent work experience in technical field (I.E. Production Maintenance, Electrical, Safety, Metal Working) required
- In depth working knowledge of a wide variety of MRO industries and product lines
- Ability to collaborate cross-functionally across all organizational levels to solve operational challenges.
- Ability to adapt to new technologies and processes under moderate supervision
- Proficient in Microsoft Outlook, Excel, SharePoint, Smartsheet, and other standard office software
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and meeting tight deadlines in fast-paced, detail-oriented environment.
